I was watching Louisville vs Wichita State, wanting the Shockers to beat Louisville–not because I dislike Louisville or like Witchita State. I just love the underdog story. I mean… who doesn’t love a good David-against-Goliath story?
I’m not sure if you’re a college basketball fan or not, but the game was a lot of fun to watch, even though I wish the outcome was different. Goliath’s deep talent finally caught up to our David in this story; so, sadly, it’s no Hoosiers (loosely based on the Milan High School team that won the 1954 Indiana State Championship) in Atlanta, GA on this night.
Maybe, just maybe, being a parent can seem like an underdog story. Some days, you feel so over-your-head as a new dad. Do you remember when you changed that diaper for the first time, or the disaster that was your first really poopy diaper change. You found yourself wondering how that gross-smelling ginormous mass of greenish-brownish-yellowish mess could come out of a baby that’s so small. Some how, you managed to get it all over yourself in places you never touched– like maybe the back of your ear.
So, like David, you beat that Goliath poopy diaper. And, you’ll continue to find ways to beat almost every Goliath along the way, even if you don’t quite believe in your abilities. So my fellow newbies and old pros as well, we will continue to be Davids against all the Goliath-situations that our children will face.
Like that underdog story went: “David put his hand in the bag, took out a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on the head, and he fell to the ground“…
