I was excited to hear about the new Food Assistant app from Kraft (as they teamed up with Blippar). It’s one of those apps that the kids love, but it’s also easy to use and fun for the kids to get involved in finding recipes and contributing to the entire meal-planning process. It’s also available for iPhone, Blackberry and Android devices; so it should work for you too!
When I heard about the app, I immediately headed over to the kraftrecipes.com–to sign up for an account:
It just took a few minutes, and it’s easy to customize my Kraft account. I then downloaded the app to my Android device:
The app didn’t take long to download and install… Then, once the app was downloaded to my smartphone, I logged into the app by clicking on “More,” then clicking on “Settings,” clicking on “Log In,” and finally entering my Kraft account information).
Then, I went back to the “Home” tab. The options on the “Home” screen are fairly self explanatory: Browse Recipes, Dinner Tonight, Budget Wise, Holidays and Entertaining and Cooking Videos. I can easily dig into more recipes, categorized in a quick-reference way. I really like the “What’s on Hand,” where I can enter the items that I have in the fridge and pantry–and easily throw together a meal, quick and better-for-my-family too.
But, since we’re in the mood for a cheeseburger, I just used the “Search” icon on the bottom of the screen, and typed in “cheeseburger.” Out of the myriad of options available on the app, I found this recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Kraft Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 8 hamburger buns
- 8 lettuce leaves
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 8 Oscar Mayer bacon (cooked and crumbled)
- 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 1/2 Kraft Chargrilled Burger Barbecue Sauce
- 2 tomatoes
Directions:
- Heat grill to medium-high heat
- Mix first 4 ingredients; shape into 8 (1/2-inch-thick) patties
- Grill 4-to-6 min. on each side or until done (160-degrees F), turning and brushing occasionally with 1/4 cup barbecue sauce for the last few min.
- Spread buns with remaining barbecue sauce; fill with lettuce, tomatoes and burgers.
This is one of the fastest cheeseburger recipes I’ve ever put together, and the burger is all encompassing (most of the ingredients are in the burger). I know that I’ll be testing out more recipes (and all the rest of these features) from this great new mobile app.
